The In the News section of this issue of Credentialing Notes includes a few articles on new "certification" programs. Using only the limited information included in the articles, these "certification" programs may actually be "certificate" programs. As both ICE and ANSI continue to promote new accreditation standards for certificate-based assessment programs, it will be interesting to see the response from groups, such as the ones included in these articles. Take a look at these articles as an example:

U.S. Department of Defense Names ANSI Accreditor of Personnel Certification Bodies for Workforce Improvement Program Under DoD Directive 8570.1
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has been named the approved accreditor of certification bodies by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) for its Information Assurance (IA) Workforce Improvement Program.
