Court: Parents Must Have Teaching Credentials to Home School Kids LOS ANGELES — California parents who don't have teaching credentials no longer can home school their children, according to a recent state appellate court ruling. “Parents do not have a constitutional right to home school their children," Justice H. Walter Croskey wrote in a Feb. 28 opinion for the 2nd District Court of Appeals. OSHA Forms Alliance with Safety and Health Organizations By forming alliance, OSHA, BCSP, CCHEST, and ABIH will work collectively to help enhance education and expertise of safety professionals and industrial hygienists. Alliance will also produce materials and programs that promote benefits of achieving safety and health certifications. In addition, representatives will collaborate to distribute information to employers and employees through print and electronic media, conferences, and meetings. NARHA Improves Driving Instructor Certification at NARHA This year the NARHA instructor certification for driving has been updated and improved, according to Sddita Fradette, NARHA’s manager of certification. “The new format for completing the NARHA driving instructor certification process includes a three-day NARHA driving workshop as a prerequisite for the traditional two-day NARHA driving instructor certification—better preparing instructors for the rigorous certification process,” said Fradette. IEEE to Expand Advocacy of Professional Certification for Software Developers The IEEE Computer Society, the world's leading organization of computer professionals, today announced it would expand advocacy of the Certified Software Development Professional (CSDP) program among its nearly 90,000 members worldwide and the IT community at large, as well as increase the numbers of those taking the software engineering e-learning course associated with the certification. Polar and NESTA Partner to Offer a New First in Personal Training CertificationPolar, the leader in heart rate monitoring and fitness assessment technology, today announced a partnership with the National Exercise & Sports Trainers Association (NESTA), to create an enhanced personal training certification, integrating cardiovascular education and heart rate monitor technology into NESTA's Personal Fitness Trainer 2.0 certification program. The National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) received official approval from the U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs declaring that U.S. veterans can receive reimbursement for the costs of the NCCAOM certification examinations. The examinations that qualify for reimbursement are the Acupuncture and Point Location Module, the Foundations of Oriental Medicine Module (FOMM), the Biomedicine Module and the Chinese Herbology Module. National Certification Board for Alzheimer Care Launches New Certifications With Pearson VUE Pearson VUE, the electronic certification and licensure testing business of Pearson, today announced the launch of the Certified Alzheimer Caregiver (CAC) and Certified Alzheimer Educator (CAEd) computer-based certification exams. These exams are delivered throughout the Pearson VUE-owned and -operated network of more than 200 Pearson Professional Centers in the United States and its territories. Prometric's launch of a brand new, low-cost Certified Alcohol Handler Training program and exam will allow restaurant owners, bar managers and training schools nationwide to save thousands of dollars on responsible alcohol management training. The Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI – www.hsmai.org) is offering a prestigious new professional certification – Certified in Hospitality Business Acumen (CHBA).
