(Government Information Security) Want to work in information security within the Defense Department (DoD)? Then you either have the appropriate professional certification when you start the job, or you attain one within six months.

Study Finds Work Satisfaction Tied to Certification Support
(Nurse.com) The Critical Care Nurses’ Work Environments 2008 study, a follow-up to initial research done in 2006, found nurses consistently rated their relationships with managers and the quality of care higher when their facilities supported certification and continuing education.

Mandatory Cyber Certification: What good is it?
(Washingtontechnology.com) Whether an obligatory return to the classroom will make a difference in countering those threats is at the heart of a debate spurred by a proposal to license cybersecurity professionals that work for or contract with the government. The mandate is part of an ambitious cybersecurity measure the Senate initiated, and it would affect tens of thousands of information technology workers.
                                                                                 
Bill Would Impose Tougher Regulations on Personal Trainers
(Ventura County Star) California physical trainers could face weightier regulations if a bill working its way through the state Legislature becomes law.  Senate Bill 374 would require physical trainers to have either a four-year degree in kinesiology, fitness or exercise science, or certification from a specific national independent organization that the bill has yet to specify.

CFP Board Invites Insurers, Brokers to Discuss Ethical Standards
(Investment News) The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc., which is lobbying for designation as the primary regulatory group for the planning industry, is forming a Business Model Working Group to help insurers, banks and broker-dealers understand how its standards apply to employees in their industries.

Massage Therapists OK with Woodland's New Regulations
(Daily Democrat) First-time massage therapists will have the option to obtain a California state certification of massage therapy starting on Aug. 1, and local practitioners are in favor of the change. The state hasn't regulated massage establishments before, leaving it up to individual cities. Now a massage therapist can either fulfill all the city requirements, or meet the requirements of the state and be registered in any California city.

Patients can Check Doctor’s Credentials Online
(Chicago Tribune) A Chicago-based group is suggesting that consumers seek information on credentials before choosing a physician.  Board certification is voluntary and not required to practice medicine. But it’s considered by hospitals, insurance companies and some patients as essential documentation of a doctor’s training and competence.

ANSI Conducts Training for Accreditation Program
(Thomas Net Industrial News Room) ANSI Certificate Accreditation Program Committee held 3-day training program for organizations that issue education/training certificates to U.S. workers. Attendees studied ASTM E2659-09 and ISO/IEC 17011 and reviewed various materials, discussed case studies, and conducted sample assessments.

Proposed Requirements to Advance Effective Communication, Cultural Competence, and Patient-Centered Care
(The Joint Commission) The Joint Commission is proposing accreditation requirements to help hospitals better address effective communication, cultural competence, and patient-centered care. Although many aspects of effective communication, cultural competence, and patient-centered care are currently supported by existing requirements, the proposed requirements have the potential to further improve the safety and quality of care for all patients. 

KCC Offering Wedding Planner Certificate
(HonoluluAdvertiser.com) Kapiolani Community College this fall will offer the state's first wedding planner certificate program through a partnership with the Wedding Planning Institute.  KCC will be an accredited partner, offering onsite training from a local professional. The first session runs Tuesdays and Thursdays Sept. 24-Nov. 14.

Rules Adopted to Help Protect Senior Citizens
(Wilmington News Journal) The Ohio Department of Insurance adopted a rule, effective July 1, that makes it an unfair and deceptive sales practice for insurance agents to use senior-specific certifications and designations when selling life insurance, annuities or health insurance, including Medicare products in the state, Director Mary Jo Hudson announced.

IMCA Raises Standards for CIMA Certification
(Financial-Planning.com) The Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA) implemented changes to its Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) certification program yesterday, the organization said. Candidates who enroll in the program after July 1 will have to pass a new certification exam.

Cisco Announces its Highest-Level Certification Ever
(InfoWorld.com) For years, the coveted Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) was the highest, most difficult rank a network professional could achieve. No more. On Monday, Cisco announced a new certification, the Cisco Certified Architect, which will become the rank above CCIE.

Public Call for Participation on National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters
(HispanicBusiness.com) A call for participants has been issued in the process of establishing a national certification for medical interpreters. The National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters, being formed as an independent 501(c)3 non-profit certification entity, will oversee the national certification of medical interpreters and ensure that the certification process is credible, transparent, valid and inclusive.

National Alliance of Wound Care Has Credentialed Over 7000 Wound Care Professionals
(MarketWatch.com) The National Alliance of Wound Care (NAWC(R)), a multi-disciplinary professional wound care credentialing and membership organization, has credentialed over 7000 health care professionals as WCC(R)s (Wound Care Certified). This makes the NAWC one of the largest wound care credentialing boards in the United States.

Pearson Takes the Lead in Helping States Ensure Teacher Candidates Possess Skills to Teach Reading
