Certifications: A false sense of security
(Federal Computer Week) Nothing irks a security professional more than the suggestion that the federal government could improve security by setting up a standard certification program for agency staff members. This idea, which is gaining traction in Congress, might sound reasonable. But many security experts say it is a red herring. One such expert is Daniel Castro, a senior analyst at the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation, who wrote a column on the topic for FCW.com.

Teacher certification prestigious but too costly, Rhee says
(The Washington Post) Judy Leak-Bowers has 18 fidgety third-graders arrayed in a circle on the carpet of her classroom at Watkins Elementary in Southeast Washington, but each seems to have her undivided attention. No one escapes her stream of questions about temperature on the Celsius scale or a recent class visit to Ben's Chili Bowl. The queries are all open-ended, requiring a thoughtful answer, not just a "Yes" or "No."

Become an Acupuncturist

Six Sigma Certification Remains Strong Throughout Recession
(marketwire.com) With economists split as to whether or not the recession in the United States is ending, many sectors of business are, and continue to remain, extremely volatile over the past 12 months. The exact reasons for this phenomenon vary greatly depending on who you ask. The reasons seem to range from the inability to locate credit for business expansion, all the way to shaky forecasts. This has left very few industries in a position of growth.
