Credentialing NotesAugust 2006The summer is more than halfway over and many of us will look to jump start our work days following the Labor Day holiday. The fall is a busy time for the credentialing industry. Review the upcoming events section for a list of seminars and conferences geared toward the certification community. Another important date to remember is the NCCA’s upcoming accreditation application deadline. OSHA Renews Alliance with Board of Certified Safety Professionals, Certification Council (U.S. Department of Labor) Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health Edwin G. Foulke Jr. today signed a two-year renewal of the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) and the Council on Certification of Health, Environmental and Safety Technologists (CCHEST) Alliance that will continue to promote safety and health professionalism in American workplaces. NH Encourages Certification of Prevention Specialistss (Join Together) The International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium certified New Hampshire's first 18 drug and alcohol prevention specialists this month, the Portsmouth Herald reported on July 4. (DailyPress.com) Every night after teaching at Bethel High School in Hampton, Charles Barhite sifted through hours of videotape of his history classes, looking for a 20-minute stretch of film that showed he could be a nationally certified teacher. WV Now Requires Certification, Insurance for Home Inspectors (Insurance Journal) Under the new state law passed in April, all inspectors will have to pass the National Home Inspection Exam to gain certification. The new requirements also call for 16 hours of continuing education a year and liability insurance coverage of at least $250,000. Eligibility for Entry-Level Certification as Occupational Therapists in the USA, AOTA Supports New Guidelines (Medical News Today) The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) supports new guidelines from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) that will expand and clarify rules for internationally-prepared therapists to be eligible for entry-level certification as occupational therapists in the United States. National Professional Organization of People in Recovery From Psychiatric Disabilities Is Created (Yahoo! Finance) People in recovery from psychiatric disabilities, researchers and others from around the country gathered on July 16-17, 2006, at the Renaissance Philadelphia Airport Hotel to create a national trade association -- the National Alliance of Peer Specialists -- that will promote the emerging profession of certified peer specialist. H.R. 784 To clarify that service marks, collective marks, and certification marks are entitled to the same protections, rights, and privileges of trademarks. Consumer Assurance of Radiologic Excellence Act of 2006 (S. 2322) To amend the Public Health Service Act to make the provision of technical services for medical imaging examinations and radiation therapy treatments safer, more accurate, and less costly. National Board-Certified Teachers in Low-Performing Schools Act of 2005 (H.R. 3155) To establish a pilot program to encourage certification of teachers in low-income, low-performing public elementary and secondary schools by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, and for other purposes.
